What remains of the financial system when we eliminate paperwork, teller windows, and replace everything with algorithms? Artificial intelligence has been transforming banking’s back-end processes for years, but now it’s entering the very core. Who has access to capital, how are risk decisions made, and who actually survives in the financial marketplace of the future?
These very questions are at the center of AI.Weekend and Investment.Weekend, festivals within the jubilee Weekend.18, which will once again bring together global leaders from technology, finance, and entrepreneurship in Rovinj from September 18-21.
One of the most anticipated conversations at AI.Weekend is the panel “Code, Cash & Collapse? AI’s Great Rewrite of the Finance Industry” which focuses on the fundamental transformation of the financial sector under artificial intelligence’s influence, from fintech solution development to legacy systems battling technological obsolescence. The discussion will explore who’s building, who’s buying, and who’s falling behind. Answers to these questions, and others the panel raises, will be offered by Sheel Mohnot, co-founder and General Partner at Better Tomorrow Ventures, and Victor Dodig, President and CEO of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).

Mohnot’s $300 million fund focuses on early-stage fintech startups that are redefining user experience and access to financial services. As an investor and former founder, Mohnot knows what building under pressure looks like and what separates market-changing ideas from those that fade into obscurity. From the other end of the spectrum, from the heart of traditional banking, comes Victor Dodig, President and CEO of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). Dodig leads over 48,000 employees, as well as the strategic transformation of one of North America’s largest banks. He also brings an insider’s perspective and knows how large institutions collaborate with innovators, where they see threats versus opportunities, and how they balance tradition with the future. His position provides unique insight into how large institutions think about their own future and how they collaborate or clash with new fintech players.

The conversation between these two global representatives of fintech and the banking sector will be moderated by Božidar Pavlović, partner at Aymo Ventures, who will steer the discussion toward concrete practical insights. Who survives in the new AI-financial ecosystem—those who build, those who buy, or those who manage to adapt in time?
But Dodig isn’t coming with just institutional knowledge—he brings a global investment vision. Beyond AI.Weekend, Dodig will also be featured at Investment.Weekend, organized in partnership with Zagreb School of Economics and Management. There, in conversation with Krešimir Marušić from Corient Private Wealth on the panel “The Future of Investing”, he’ll open key questions about where capital is flowing today, how investment behavior is changing under pressure from artificial intelligence, energy transition, and demographic shifts, and what it means to lead a financial institution in times of uncertainty.
