In a world where rapid technological advancements often clash with institutional red tape, the ongoing debate between innovation and bureaucracy took center stage at a panel powered by Q Agency. Titled Innovation vs. Bureaucracy – Who Wins?, the panel brought together industry leaders to discuss the complexities of fostering innovation within structured, often slow-moving, bureaucratic environments.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Mazin A. Gadir, Director of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances at IQVIA, offered invaluable insights into the balancing act that companies and organizations face as they strive to innovate. He pointed out the key role of the Government in funding and educational policy.
„In 2018, the Dubai government launched an AI-driven initiative for diabetes screening, using advanced imaging to scan potential diabetic patients. Remarkably, the system delivered results in less than 24 hours, showcasing the speed and potential of AI in healthcare. However, despite such breakthroughs, challenges persist in talent shortages and adoption“, said Dr. Gadir.
Moderator Zlatko Matokanović, Director of AI Research and Development at Q Agency asked Dr. Gadir about failure examples. „The failure of Babylon Health’s AI platform highlights how a lack of community engagement can doom even promising innovations.“ For AI to thrive, Dr. Gadir emphasized the need for continuous funding, insurance policies for proof-of-concept projects, and government support. He noted that language barriers and the adoption of new technologies remain significant hurdles. While regions like Croatia and Estonia produce competitive AI talent, the Middle East faces a talent drain.
